Novelis is a member of Alupro, The Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation and a funding partner of both the Every Can Counts and MetalMatters campaigns. These campaigns have not only increased capture rates for drink cans away from the home but have also improved kerbside recycling rates for other metal packaging.
They are delivering a real shift in consumer behaviour leading to increased capture rates for all materials.
MetalMatters is a marketing and communications campaign designed to support local authority kerbside metal packaging recycling schemes. Campaign partners include Tata Steel, Coca Cola Enterprises and Beverage Can Makers Europe – as well as Novelis.
MetalMatters is also a great example of how industry and local authorities can work together to engage local communities, drive up recycling rates and also support further development of our waste management and recycling sectors. With successful launches in locations such as Aberdeen, Weymouth and Belfast in Northern Ireland the campaign is having a UK wide impact with even more planned for 2012-2013.
Every Can Counts is a partnership between major European and UK aluminium and steel beverage can manufacturers and reprocessors, including Novelis.
Every Can Counts works with organisations wanting to set up, or improve drinks can recycling amongst their staff and/or customers. The programme is also working to raise awareness of recycling drinks cans ‘on the go’ and has supported campaigns in shopping centres, town centres, tourist sites and at events, including major music festivals. In summer 2011 we attended 10 music festivals and helped to collect 15 tonnes of used drink cans – over 1 million cans.
The Resource Association is a new professional advocacy body for the reprocessing and recycling industries of which Novelis is a founder member.
Their mission is to support the development of a sustainable and healthy industry by providing a voice, forum and leadership for the materials reprocessing and recycling industries, as well as related environmental and social interests.
The Aluminium Federation is the Trade Association which represents the interests of the UK aluminium industry. Based in West Bromwich, the Aluminium Federation acts as the point of contact between the aluminium industry and its many stakeholders.
The Aluminium Federation’s provides premier on-line resource for all matters related to aluminium, and the site has been improved to accommodate the growing number of people searching for aluminium information.
