Exploring how Novelis’ recycling expertise can help shape a successful UK Deposit Return Scheme.
This week, Novelis Latchford hosted representatives from the UK Deposit Management Organisation (DMO), including CEO Russell Davies and colleagues from their external affairs and operations teams. The visit focused on how Novelis’ recycling expertise, particularly in used beverage can (UBC) processing, can support the successful rollout of the UK’s upcoming Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).
During the visit, the group toured our production facilities and saw first-hand the progress on our new UBC recycling facility, which will significantly expand the UK’s ability to recycle aluminium beverage cans. The DMO team responded very positively to our investment in Warrington and the new skilled jobs it will create.
They emphasised the DRS’s role in reducing litter and improving local environments, which is one of the key priorities as implementation moves forward. While discussions focused on social and environmental cleanliness, we look forward to future collaboration on the broader benefits of aluminium’s unique “can‑to‑can” recycling loop and the role circularity can play as the scheme evolves.
