NOVELIS PRESENTS GREENLIGHT WITH QUALITY AWARD
Greenlight Environmental Limited has received a Certificate of Excellence from Novelis Recycling, in recognition of the improved quality of aluminium used beverage cans supplied for recycling.
Warrington: 23rd March, 2009: Residents in three local authorities in western Scotland can be confident that their recycling efforts are not going to waste after contractor Greenlight Environmental Limited received an award from Novelis, the company that reprocesses the aluminium drink cans collected in their kerbside recycling schemes.
Greenlight provides a collection and processing service to three local authorities in western Scotland; Argyll and Bute, Inverclyde and West Dumbartonshire. Material collected from Argyll and Bute and West Dumbartonshire is processed at a depot in Alexandria, and Inverclyde material is processed at a depot in Greenock prior to despatch to Novelis' dedicated aluminium can recycling plant in Warrington, Cheshire.
At the Novelis plant aluminium cans are melted down to produce ingots of recycled metal which are then used in the manufacture of more drink cans, a process that can be repeated infinitely. This ‘closed recycling loop’ saves 95% of the energy required to make aluminium from its raw materials, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by the same amount.
Presenting the Quality Award, Novelis Recycling Business Development Executive Bob Meath said: “It is a great pleasure to present this award in recognition of the hard work and great effort of all the Greenlight staff, and recycling public of Argyll and Bute, Inverclyde and West Dumbartonshire. By supplying good quality aluminium cans into our system they are ensuring that the closed recycling loop is maintained – this means that in around 60 days the aluminium cans they recycle can be back on sale as new cans.”
Operations Manager for Greenlight Environmental, Mark Smith, said: "We are delighted to receive this Novelis award which acknowledges the hard work of our processing team to deliver top quality material for recycling. The Company will strive to continually improve its processes to ensure all aluminium sent for reprocessing is of the highest possible standard."
