NOVELIS RECYCLING ANNOUNCEMENT ON ALUMINIUM FOIL

Novelis Recycling has announced that with effect from Monday 20th October it will not purchase foil for recycling. The decision does not affect suppliers of used aluminium beverage cans (UBCs) and the company remains committed to offering a guaranteed market and a stable, competitive price for UK-sourced UBCs.

The decision does not affect suppliers of used aluminium beverage cans (UBCs) and the company remains committed to offering a guaranteed market and a stable, competitive price for UK-sourced UBCs.

The decision, which has not been taken lightly, comes as a result of several incidents over recent months when deliveries to our Warrington reprocessing facility have been contaminated with potentially dangerous items.

The Novelis Recycling team continues to work closely with foil suppliers to find a workable solution to the issue of contamination but until our Operational and Health and Safety systems are completely satisfied that the risks have been removed we are unable to purchase foil.

We recommend that foil suppliers contact the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation(Alupro) for advice and information on finding alternative markets for their material. www.alupro.org.uk
