Novelis Recycling has added new resources to its on-line education 'hub' and is currently working with primary schools in Liverpool to develop new materials to link recycling to core curriculum subjects.

?Think Cans? is a web-based resource which encourages the teaching of recycling by linking it to key areas of the National Curriculum, including Science, Geography, Design Technology and Citizenship.

The recycling education ?hub? on the company?s website, www.thinkcans.com, is designed to enable teachers and waste education professionals to bring recycling alive using the aluminium drink can as a ?real life? example. It offers a range of activities including interactive games and classroom activity sheets and lesson plans, supported by teachers? notes and curriculum links.

Although currently designed for Primary school-age children, work is underway to develop similar resources for the Secondary curriculum. The project is being funded by revenue generated from the sale of Packaging Recovery Notes

As part of the company's ongoing support for teachers Novelis has been working with schools in Liverpool and recently introduced the Think Cans "Educrate", which is made from aluminium and is packed with learning props to help teachers bring recycling alive in the classroom. In a pilot project the Educrate will be shared across the city?s schools over the second half of the summer term, and feedback from pupils and teachers alike will be used to develop the resource further.

The Educrate will be making its way to schools across the city in a bid to raise awareness of recycling among primary school children, by linking it to core subjects in the National Curriculum, including science, design technology and geography.

Pupils will be able to play the Think Cans quiz, explore recycling fact and fiction and learn all about the 3 Rs: reduce, re-use, recycle. The Educrate supports resources already developed by Novelis Recycling and available on the company?s www.thinkcans.com website.
