NOVELIS RECOGNISES SUCCESSFUL RECOVERY OF ALUMINIUM CANS FROM MSW
Novelis Recycling has presented Levenseat Ltd, a Scottish waste management company, with a quality award to mark its excellent achievements in the recovery of quality aluminium beverage cans from the municipal waste stream.
Novelis Recycling has presented Levenseat Ltd, a Scottish waste management company, with a quality award to mark its excellent achievements in the recovery of quality aluminium beverage cans from the municipal waste stream.
Levenseat operates a waste management and recycling site in West Lothian and, as part of its operations, runs a residual waste treatment plant as a pilot project on behalf of The Levenseat Trust. Waste material is sourced from two local authorities: North Lanarkshire and West Lothian. The aim of the project is to recover recyclable materials from the residual waste stream.
Recognising the high revenue potential offered by selling recovered aluminium to Novelis, Levenseat has invested in processing equipment to extract the aluminium cans from this residual waste, in order to meet the Novelis specifications and achieve the best price.
Over a two year period, the family-run company has invested around ?70,000 in additional aluminium processing equipment, including an eddy current separator and, most recently, a picking conveyor. Novelis has worked with the company throughout this period offering advice and support, and has provided a baler for Levenseat.
Presenting Levenseat?s Recycling Development Manager Angus Hamilton with the Quality Award, Novelis Recycling Commercial Manager Keith Guest said: ?I applaud the commitment and determination that Levenseat has put into recovering good quality aluminium cans from the municipal waste stream.?
Accepting the Award, Levenseat Recycling Development Manager Angus Hamilton paid tribute to his team, which has worked on the aluminium project for the past two years, adding: ?With aluminium cans having the highest commercial value of any recyclable material in the domestic waste stream, we were determined to extract them from the residual waste collections. We?re grateful for the support we?ve received from Novelis to help us achieve our goal. With the good price for quality aluminium used cans we fully expect to recoup the cost of the additional investment in a relatively short period.?
