NOVELIS RECYCLING EXTENDS NETWORK TO CARLISLE
Mountelm Ltd., a Carlisle-based family-run metal merchant, has joined forces with the world's leading aluminium recycling company, Novelis, to become the latest addition to the company's network of 'Cash for Cans' recycling centres.
Mountelm Ltd., a Carlisle-based family-run metal merchant, has joined forces with the world's leading aluminium recycling company, Novelis, to become the latest addition to the company's network of 'Cash for Cans' recycling centres.
Mountelm, who have been operating for 40 years, provides a cash for cans service enabling members of the public to exchange their empty aluminium drink cans for cash. Recyclers can currently earn 40p per kilo (approx. 65 cans).
Five billion aluminium cans are sold every year in the U.K. They are 100% recyclable, making them a valuable source of metal. If all five billion were recycled through 'cash for cans' they would be worth approximately ?30 million to collectors, schools, charities and voluntary organisations.
Mountelm's managing director Michael Liddle comments: 'We've a long history of working with Novelis, but being part of the Novelis Recycling network will provide Mountelm with valuable additional help for business development and marketing, allowing us to really improve the aluminium recycling rates in the Carlisle area.'
Novelis Recycling's Business Development Executive Robbie Davies explains: 'Cash for Cans enables schools, businesses and local people to benefit directly from recycling. Recycling aluminium cans saves 95% of the energy required to produce aluminium from raw materials, and reduces litter and pressure on local landfill sites - so it's good news all round.'
