Lead

The lead content in packaging is subject to very tight controls.

Problems caused by lead:

• For recycled ingots produced by Novelis the presence of lead must not exceed 90 ppm (parts per million).
• It takes only a few kilograms of lead to contaminate one of our 70 tonne furnaces and render the metal unusable. Lead contamination can stop saleable production from Novelis' furnaces for up to two days.
